Virginia wine has reached an important moment. Quality, consistency, and ambition across the industry have never been higher, yet meaningful growth in wholesale and export markets requires coordination, shared strategy, and sustained engagement. The Virginia Vintners Alliance exists to meet that moment. We bring wineries together around a common goal: to compete more effectively in trade-driven markets by working collectively rather than individually, by sharing resources, aligning messaging, and reducing barriers to market entry. We envision a future in which Virginia is widely recognized, at home and abroad, as a leading American wine region, with distinct terroirs, thoughtful winemaking, and confident presence in global trade markets.

Mission statement:

We are a coordinated alliance of Virginia’s market-driven wineries working together to strengthen our collective traded sector presence, open new distribution pathways, and expand recognition of Virginia as a producer of distinctive, world-class wines. Through collaboration in trade outreach, export development, and storytelling that celebrates the character of our terroirs, we aim to accelerate the growth of Virginia’s wine industry both domestically and abroad.

Virginia wineries are diverse in size, style, and philosophy, but they share common challenges in trade-driven markets: limited awareness, fragmented representation, and high barriers to entry. The Alliance model allows us to:

What we do:

Trade & Market Development
We design and execute targeted trade engagement initiatives, domestically and internationally, to connect Virginia wineries with importers, distributors, sommeliers, educators, and media in influential markets.
Export Readiness & Access
We help Virginia wineries navigate the path from interest to execution by coordinating group participation in key international trade events, supporting market entry efforts, and building durable export infrastructure.
Education & Storytelling
We invest in trade-focused education and regional storytelling that equips buyers and influencers with the context they need to understand Virginia’s vineyards, wine styles, and value proposition.
Collaboration at Scale
By working together, Alliance members achieve greater visibility, credibility, and return on investment than would be possible through individual efforts alone.
